Medications are an important aspect of most treatment plans. Although Dr. Naqvi’s approach will be unique based on your needs, some important things to know are:
• The goal is to prescribe the lowest dose of medication possible while also helping you reach your goals.
• Dr. Naqvi prefers to make slower medication changes to let you adjust and monitor for side effects.
• Dr. Naqvi does not regularly prescribe high doses of medications or doses above the FDA’s recommendations. -
Performance Psychiatry New York provides both in-person and telehealth appointments.
-
Privacy is extremely important, especially in the world of mental health.
Dr. Naqvi communicates with patients only through the patient portal or a provided phone number. Feel free to ask specific privacy related questions during your free 15-minute phone consultation or during appointments.
-
During the initial consultation, Dr. Naqvi will let you take the lead at first and discuss what has led you to seek treatment. Although this includes a discussion of your symptoms and past treatment, Dr. Naqvi spends time learning about your past and present relationships, family and social life, personal identity, and other factors that have shaped you as a person.
Other important aspects to consider about the initial consultation include:
• The initial evaluation may take more than one visit.
• Medication may not be prescribed at the first visit.
• An initial consultation does not guarantee ongoing treatment. Depending on your specific needs, you may be referred to another provider. -
If your situation is non-urgent, please call the office and leave a message; we will do our best to return your call within one business day. You can also use the patient portal for non-urgent questions. If Dr. Naqvi is out of town or on vacation, he will arrange for another psychiatrist to cover his patients. In an emergency, call 911 or go to your closest emergency room.
-
Your appointment time is reserved for you. As a courtesy to others and to avoid being charged the full session fee, please provide at least 24 business hours’ notice to cancel appointments. No-shows will be charged the full session fee.
-
If you are or believe you are experiencing a medical or psychiatric emergency, including thoughts of suicide, side effects of medication, or any other urgent or time-sensitive matter in which you need an immediate response, call 911 or go to your closest emergency room.
